How a Preschool Concert Changed my Life

When I was a kid, my heroes didn’t wear capes; they held microphones! Growing up, I’d spend hours singing along to Hannah Montana, and dreaming of being on stage like Selena Gomez and the Jonas Brothers. They were my inspiration, larger than life, but for little ol’ me—just a regular kid singing into a hairbrush—that spotlight felt a million miles away!

It all began in preschool: I was a bubbly four-year-old obsessed with music. That year, in a twist of fate, my teacher dropped the news that would set my tiny heart on fire: we’d be putting on a concert! I wondered, “Would I be a part of it?”. So, being the eager beaver I was, I tried earning brownie points with my teacher, hoping that if I show good spirit, I’d be her first pick to perform! That week, I became her perfect little helper: I cut out tickets, spread the word and even attempted to draw posters—but really, more like stick-people scribbles. Soon enough, my teacher gave me my chance–I’d be singing in the concert!I was over the moon!!!

I’ll never forget my first moment on stage; it was like entering a whole new world!  The second I took that giant microphone in my tiny hand, I felt my adrenaline rising. The auditorium was flooded with faces! But as I took a deep breath and sang my first note, I felt like I was floating. And with every note I sang, as I closed my eyes, it was as if everyone could understand my heart.

After the concert, my teacher pulled my mom aside to share her feedback: not only did I have a knack for singing, I hit everyone not just right! Can you believe that? Only four years old and I was already on-key! It was astonishing, really, for someone so young. That conversation sparked something in my family. They saw potential in me, and from that day on, they nurtured my talent, guiding me toward the path of the singer I am today!

That performance was the start of everything! It wasn’t just a child singing at a school event; it was the first glimpse of who I was meant to be. And now, years later, with a following that spans the globe and collaborations with artists I once idolized, I can trace it all back to that little girl on stage.

As I continue to share my voice with the world, I carry a lesson from that first concert: never underestimate your childhood dream. No matter how out of reach it may seem, no matter how ordinary you may feel, your moment can come! So, to anyone reading—dream big, aim high and embrace the talents within you. It only takes one moment to change the course of your life, just as it changed mine.
